When Dong Zhou turned his back Cao Cao attempted to slay the tyrant, but was forced to abandon the attempt when Dong Zhou realized what was afoot. He instead offered the sword as a gift and left the capital. Cao Cao then decided to reach out to other regional warlords, calling for a united effort to overthrow Dong Zhou.
